EDMS Australia is working with the Australian Defence Force for the design, installation and testing of a fire detection, alarm and supression system specifically for their LARC V fleet of amphibious vehicles. The system will initially be installed and tested on a single LARC V as a prototype, followed by the provision of a full detail design package supporting the system through to end of life.

The system will incorporate detection, audible and visual alarms and a low pressure water mist fire protection system. A low pressure water mist system has principally been chosen to protect crew from toxic chemicals in the event the system is accidently activated during operation and maintenance activities, albeit the risk is low. The water mist system is designed to supress and extinguish a fire through oxygen displacement, cooling and transfer of radiant heat.
